YESCO Completes 15-Screen LED Signage Upgrade at LA Union Station

2026-08-04 · via DailyDOOH

YESCO has completed a large-scale interior LED signage upgrade at Los Angeles Union Station, replacing outdated digital displays with 15 new LED units across the historic transit hub. The project was funded by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro), which owns the station, and Abbott Construction served as general contractor.

For anyone managing screens in a transit environment, this is a useful case study in scale and variety rather than a single product launch. The displays, manufactured by SNA Displays, were installed throughout the station's interior for transit information, wayfinding, station announcements, event messaging and what the announcement describes as local advertising. YESCO says the new units offer improved pixel pitch and brightness compared to what they replaced, along with larger display areas.

The installation isn't uniform. According to the release, sizes range from 8 feet 4 inches by 18 feet 2 inches wall-mounted displays to suspended double-faced directional units measuring 3 feet 4 inches by 18 feet 1 inch, up to large-format concourse displays as big as 4 feet 2 inches by 24 feet 8 inches. Pixel pitch varies across the installation at 1.563mm, 2.5mm and 3.91mm, which YESCO says allows for clear viewing at different distances depending on location within the station's waiting room, passageways and concourse. In total, the project uses more than 20 million individual LED diodes, per the company.

What's notable here is the constraint the project operated under: Union Station opened in 1939 and is listed on both the National Register of Historic Places and the California Register of Historical Resources. Selbert Perkins Design was brought in specifically to integrate the new screens without compromising the building's architectural character, while Cresa SoCal Project & Development Services handled project management and Morlin Asset Management acted as property manager. That combination of stakeholders points to how complex it can be to add modern LED infrastructure into a protected historic structure, something signage integrators working on older transit or civic buildings will recognize.

Steve Laddaga, senior account executive at YESCO, said the upgrade reflects the company's approach to delivering display solutions for significant public spaces while honoring the station's history.

The announcement does not detail the content management system driving the network, the vendors behind any advertising sales on the new screens, or a total project cost. It also doesn't specify when installation began or how long the rollout took. For an operator sizing up a similar retrofit in a landmark building, those gaps in the release are the questions worth asking YESCO or SNA Displays directly.

YESCO , the 106-year-old company known for creating, repairing and maintaining internationally recognizable signs, has just completed a large-scale interior LED signage upgrade at the historic Los Angeles Union Station .

The project, funded by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro), owner of Los Angeles Union Station, replaced outdated digital displays with 15 state-of-the-art, high-resolution LED units designed to enhance the passenger experience at one of the West Coast’s busiest transportation hubs.

Working under Abbott Construction, the project’s general contractor, YESCO provided and installed the new digital signage package throughout Union Station’s interior. The upgraded displays, manufactured by SNA Displays , feature significantly improved pixel pitch and brightness, delivering higher visual clarity for transit information, wayfinding, station announcements, event messaging and local advertising. The new screens also increase overall display area, replacing previous units with larger formats that improve visibility and accessibility for travelers navigating the 86-year-old landmark.

The digital signage package included a variety of display types and dimensions tailored to the station’s architectural environment. New installations range from 8 feet 4 inches by 18 feet 2 inches wall-mounted displays to suspended double-faced 3 feet 4 inches by 18 feet 1-inch directional units, along with several large-format concourse displays measuring up to 4 feet 2 inches by 24 feet 8 inches. Pixel pitch specifications span 1.563 mm, 2.5 mm and 3.91 mm, providing crisp, high-resolution viewing at multiple distances within the station’s waiting room, passageways and passenger concourse. Collectively, the project incorporates more than 20 million individual LED diodes.

YESCO collaborated closely with Morlin Asset Management, the property manager and agent for Los Angeles Union Station, as well as Cresa SoCal Project & Development Services team, which provided comprehensive project management services, coordinating project stakeholders and overseeing every phase of execution from planning and design through construction and project completion. The project team also included Selbert Perkins Design, the design firm, which helped integrate the upgraded displays into the historic station while preserving its architectural integrity. Opened in 1939, Union Station is listed on both the National Register of Historic Places and the California Register of Historical Resources and remains the busiest railroad passenger terminal in the western United States.

Steve Laddaga , senior account executive, YESCO told us “Completing this upgrade at the Los Angeles Union Station reflects our team’s commitment to delivering high-quality digital display solutions for some of the nation’s most significant public spaces,” said “These new LED systems enhance the flow of information for travelers every day while honoring the architectural character and history of this iconic station.”

YESCO specializes in the manufacture of custom electric signs, sign maintenance and out-of-home advertising. In addition, YESCO operates sign and lighting service repair stores throughout North America as well as a sign financing business. Thomas Young founded the company in Ogden, Utah, in 1920 after borrowing $300 from his father. YESCO began by offering wall painted advertisements, gold-leaf window lettering and coffin plates. Today, helmed by the third and fourth generations of the founder’s family, YESCO creates, services and maintains award-winning displays for some of the most prestigious brands.
