Vistar Media has integrated T-Mobile first-party carrier data into its demand-side platform, adding thousands of new audience segments for advertisers buying digital out-of-home media. The segments are available exclusively through Vistar's DSP, according to the company.

For operators and media owners selling inventory through Vistar, this is another step in the platform's push to offer targeting data that does not rely on traditional digital identifiers like cookies or mobile ad IDs, which have become less reliable as privacy rules tighten across the industry.

Vistar is part of T-Mobile Advertising Solutions following T-Mobile's roughly $600 million acquisition of the company in 2025. The carrier relationship is now producing a direct product integration: audience segments built from consented mobile data, including signals on app ownership, app engagement, and location patterns.

How the targeting works

According to Vistar, the system does not target individual consumers. Instead, T-Mobile Advertising Solutions uses carrier data to score areas based on the likelihood that certain audience types are present at different times of day. Vistar then matches those scores against available DOOH inventory, letting advertisers pick screens more likely to reach a chosen audience segment at a given time.

This is consistent with how DOOH targeting typically works, since the medium cannot identify individual viewers the way a logged-in app or website can. What is new here is the scale and source of the underlying data. Vistar says the carrier-based segments offer a larger and more representative audience pool than some of its existing data partnerships, while keeping the approach aggregated rather than individualized.

The announcement does not specify which audience segments are included, how many total segments beyond "thousands," or what regions or markets the T-Mobile data covers. It also does not say whether pricing for campaigns using these segments differs from standard Vistar DOOH buys, or whether the data will eventually extend beyond the DSP to other Vistar products.

What it means for operators

For screen operators and media owners on the Vistar network, the practical effect is a potentially larger pool of advertiser demand tied to audience data that used to live inside T-Mobile's own ad business. Lucy Markowitz, general manager of Vistar Media Americas Marketplace, said mobile usage patterns offer clear signals into where and how audiences move through the world, a framing the company is using to position carrier data as a differentiator against rival DOOH platforms that rely on third-party location data vendors or panel-based audience measurement.

Whether advertisers see meaningfully better campaign performance from carrier-based segments versus existing location data sources is not addressed in the release, and would likely take independent measurement to confirm.

Vistar Media has added audience segments based on T-Mobile’s first-party carrier data to its demand-side platform, expanding the targeting options available to advertisers buying DooH media.

Vistar, which is part of T-Mobile Advertising Solutions, says advertisers can now access thousands of audience segments derived from consented mobile data exclusively through the Vistar DSP.

The segments use signals including app ownership and engagement along with location data to identify audience interests, behaviors, and movement patterns.

Instead of targeting individual consumers, T-Mobile Advertising Solutions uses the carrier data to identify areas where certain audiences are more likely to be at different times of the day.

Vistar then matches those scores with available OoH inventory, allowing advertisers to activate campaigns on screens more likely to reach the selected audience.

The integration gives Vistar another first-party data source as advertisers look for alternatives to traditional digital advertising identifiers.

“Mobile usage patterns offer some of the clearest signals into where and how audiences engage with the world around them,” said Lucy Markowitz, general manager of Vistar Media Americas Marketplace.

According to Vistar, the carrier-based data provides a larger and more representative audience pool while maintaining an aggregated, privacy-focused approach.

T-Mobile acquired Vistar Media for approximately US$600 million in 2025 and subsequently made the company part of T-Mobile Advertising Solutions.
