Planar Adds Double-Sided and Modular LED Lines for Architectural Displays

2026-09-02 · via DailyDOOH

Planar has added two new LED product lines aimed at operators who want display shapes and configurations beyond the standard flat rectangle. The Chameleon Series and Mosaic Series are now available to order through Planar's authorized reseller network, according to the company.

Both lines share the same pixel pitch range: 1.2, 1.5, 1.9, 2.6 and 3.9mm, and both support brightness up to 3,000 nits for high ambient light environments, Planar says. That puts them in the same territory as other fine-pitch architectural LED products aimed at retail, hospitality and corporate lobby installations rather than broadcast or control room use.

Chameleon: double-sided in one thin cabinet

The Chameleon Series is a double-sided LED display under 2 inches (45mm) deep, built on a 500x500mm cabinet, according to Planar. The pitch is that a single display can show independent content on each side or synchronize both, effectively giving two audiences two different messages from one physical structure. Planar lists a rounded corner option and flexible hanging or free-standing mounting as part of the package.

For operators, the appeal is space efficiency. A double-sided unit that hangs from a ceiling or stands free in an atrium can serve two sightlines without doubling the footprint. Whether the content management and playback side handles independent dual-sided scheduling out of the box, or whether that requires separate inputs and a CMS built for it, is not addressed in the announcement.

Mosaic: building-block shapes

The Mosaic Series takes a different approach to flexibility. Instead of a single fixed form factor, it offers multiple cabinet sizes, 500x250, 500x500, 750x250 and 1000x250mm, that can be combined into custom shapes, including layouts with negative space, according to Planar. The company says visual performance stays consistent whether cabinets are mounted vertically or horizontally, and that the design is front-serviceable.

This positions Mosaic against other modular architectural LED products that let designers break away from the standard grid, useful for lobby installations, branded environments and experiential retail where a plain rectangle doesn't fit the space or the brand.

What's missing

The announcement does not give pricing, lead times, or specific case studies of installed systems. It also does not name the media players or CMS platforms these are validated against, which matters for integrators speccing a full solution rather than just the wall itself. Planar's release points buyers to www.planar.com/Chameleon and www.planar.com/Mosaic for further detail.

Both product lines are pitched squarely at architectural and experiential deployments rather than straightforward digital signage or menu board use, so operators running standard retail or QSR screens are unlikely to be the primary market here.

This week, Planar announced the launch of the Planar ® Chameleon ™ Series and Planar ® Mosaic ™ Series, expanding the possibilities for creative LED display design beyond conventional square and rectangle video walls and providing new ways to integrate LED into architectural and experiential environments.

Available in 1.2, 1.5, 1.9, 2.6 and 3.9mm pixel pitches, Planar Chameleon Series and Planar Mosaic Series combine a broad range of pixel pitches for varying viewing distances, high brightness models for environments with high ambient light, thin profiles, front-serviceability and flexible design capabilities, giving designers greater creative freedom to bring imaginative indoor architectural LED designs to life.

Chameleon Series – One Display. Two Perspectives

The Planar ® Chameleon ™ Series is a family of ultra-slim, double-sided LED displays measuring under 2-inches (45mm) deep, featuring independent or synchronized dual-sided content, transforming a single display into two unique audience experiences. Rounded corner option and high brightness models provide additional flexibility to meet a variety of design preferences and lighting environments. Available in 1.2, 1.5, 1.9, 2.6 and 3.9mm pixel pitches, Chameleon supports a range of viewing distances. High brightness models deliver up to 3,000 nits to accommodate environments with high ambient light, further expanding installation possibilities. Flexible hanging and free-standing installation options to engage audiences in multiple directions and integrate into a wide range of indoor environments. Built on a versatile 500×500mm cabinet, Chameleon can be configured into display sizes tailored to the space and application.

Mosaic Series – Where Creativity Takes Shape

Planar ® Mosaic ™ Series is a family of indoor architectural LED displays designed for ultimate creative flexibility. Multiple LED display cabinet sizes, including 500×250, 500×500, 750×250 and 1000x250mm provide flexible building blocks for creating custom shapes, sizes and layouts, including designs that incorporate negative space. Available in 1.2 through 3.9mm pixel pitches, Mosaic supports a range of viewing distances and up to 3,000 nits to accommodate high ambient light. Regardless of vertical or horizontal cabinet orientation, Mosaic displays maintain consistent visual performance across the video wall. Front serviceability provides convenient access for maintenance, complemented by a power-efficient design.

“LED displays are increasingly becoming an integral part how spaces are designed and experienced,” said Robert Detwiler , senior director of product management at Planar. “Planar Chameleon Series and Mosaic Series give our customers and partners new creative tools to move beyond conventional display formats and bring distinctive visual concepts to life in virtually any indoor space.”
