Outdo Renews Exclusive Ad Rights on Nottingham Express Transit Network

2026-09-16 · via DailyDOOH

Outdo has retained the exclusive advertising rights contract for the Nottingham Express Transit (NET) tram network, extending a relationship with operator Nottingham Trams Limited that both sides say goes back more than two decades.

For operators and media owners watching the UK transit advertising market, the renewal keeps one of the country's longer-running tram advertising deals in place rather than opening it up to a competitive switch. According to the announcement, Outdo will continue managing and commercially developing the NET advertising estate, building on its existing tram wrap advertising business.

The more relevant detail for digital signage readers is what Outdo says comes next. The company plans to introduce a mix of new advertising formats across the network, including what it describes as "digital and traditional advertising sites," alongside lamp post banners and bridge advertising. The announcement does not specify what the digital sites will look like, what hardware or content management platform might be used, how many screens are planned, or when they would go live. That leaves open whether this means a modest rollout of digital screens at stops or something more substantial across the network.

Rachel Davies, managing director of Outdo Transport, is quoted saying the company sees "significant potential to further develop the advertising estate" and wants to work with other tram operators in the UK applying what she calls its specialist expertise in the category. Sarah Turner, managing director at Nottingham Express Transit, is quoted saying the partnership has "grown from strength to strength" over 23 years and that NET wants to keep developing its advertising programme.

What it means for the sector

Tram and transit advertising has historically leaned on vehicle wraps, static panels and banners rather than digital displays, in part because of the cost and durability challenges of running screens in an outdoor, vibration-heavy environment. Outdo's stated intent to add digital sites to the NET estate suggests the operator sees enough advertiser demand to justify the move, but without hardware, software or budget details in this announcement, it is not yet a digital signage story in the way a display or CMS launch would be.

For now, the news is a contract retention with a stated ambition to add digital inventory later. Anyone tracking transit media in the UK will want to watch whether Outdo names a technology partner, display supplier or timeline for the digital component, since that is where this story becomes directly relevant to screen operators and content management vendors rather than just outdoor ad sales.
