The Comedy Store, the longtime comedy venue on Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, has a new digital out of home sign that Orange Barrel Media will manage for advertising, according to a press release from the company.
The structure is a roughly 70-foot-tall pylon built around a double-sided Empire Exterior LED video system arranged in a V-shape, manufactured by SNA Displays. Each of the two screens measures 30 feet tall by 16 feet 3 inches wide, with a resolution of 1,140 by 620 pixels and an 8 mm pixel pitch. That pitch is typical for large-format street-level DOOH structures meant to be viewed from a distance rather than up close.
The sign was developed jointly by Orange Barrel Media, sign contractor Yesco, SNA Displays and design firm Rios, with Orange Barrel's in-house architecture team, OBM Studio, working alongside Rios on the design. SNA Displays also handled on-site installation management and technical support, according to the release.
Beyond the LED panels, the structure includes illuminated decorative "scroll" elements referencing classic marquee design, internally illuminated channel lettering, perforated metal cladding and embossed metal detailing. The release describes the intent as blending traditional signage craft with a modern video display, aimed at giving the venue a distinct look both day and night.
Why it matters for operators
For digital signage and DOOH operators, this is another example of media owners investing in architecturally integrated structures rather than standalone billboards, a trend that has become more common on high-visibility corridors like the Sunset Strip. Pairing an LED video system with custom fabricated elements (metal cladding, channel lettering, marquee-style scrollwork) raises the design and construction complexity and cost compared to a simple digital billboard retrofit, though the release does not disclose project cost or installation timeline.
Orange Barrel Media, which specializes in large-format DOOH placements often tied to landmark or culturally significant sites, framed the project as both a commercial media placement and a preservation of the venue's identity. Quotes from Orange Barrel's Clay Collett, SNA Displays' Pete Simon and Yesco's Jeff Young all emphasize the sign's role in reflecting the venue's legacy on a corridor known for its density of illuminated signage.
The release does not specify what content or advertising will run on the sign, ad rates, or when the installation was completed. It also does not mention brightness specs, refresh rate or media player and content management details, information operators evaluating similar large-format DOOH builds would typically want to know.

A comedy venue in West Hollywood, Calif., now boasts a digital out of home sign upgrade. Orange Barrel Media is managing advertising for the video pylon at the historic The Comedy Store on the iconic Sunset Strip. The structure was developed in partnership with Rios, Yesco and SNA Displays, according to a press release. It was designed by interdisciplinary design firm RIOS in collaboration with Orange Barrel Media's in-house architecture team OBM Studio.
"The Comedy Store is an institution on the Sunset Strip, and this sign needed to reflect that," Clay Collett, vice president of west coast development for Orange Barrel Media, said in the release. "We were able to deliver something that honors the venue's legacy while setting a new standard for what a sign on this corridor can be."
The design for the new sign centers on a double-sided Empire Exterior LED video system arranged in a V-shape and framed by illuminated decorative "scroll" elements inspired by classic marquee design. The LED components were manufactured by SNA Displays and each screen measures 30' tall x 16'3" wide (1,140 x 620 pixels), sporting an 8 mm pixel pitch. SNA Displays also provided on-site installation management and technical support to help ensure a smooth installation process.
"After a long relationship with YESCO and Orange Barrel Media, we're delighted to be working with both again to improve such an iconic Hollywood staple," Pete Simon, director of out-of-home sales at SNA Displays, said in the release
The approximately 70-foot-tall structure, designed by Rios and developed under OBM's direction, incorporates internally illuminated channel lettering, custom perforated metal cladding and embossed metal detailing to create a dynamic visual presence day and night.
"The Comedy Store has long been a part of the visual and cultural fabric of the Sunset Strip, so we felt a true sense of responsibility to create something that felt both authentic and visually captivating," Jeff Young, executive vice president of Yesco, said in the release.
