LG used a two-day event in London to show off a new microLED display and gather feedback from trade partners on where the display market is heading next. The Think Beyond event, held at 180 Studios on September 29-30, centred on the launch of the LG MAGNIT LASA 136', an all-in-one chip-on-board (COB) microLED display, according to the company.

For operators evaluating large-format displays, the launch matters because it adds another size option to LG's MAGNIT COB microLED line, a category the company has been pushing as an alternative to conventional LED walls and large LCD panels in premium installations. COB technology mounts LED chips directly onto a circuit board rather than in discrete packages, which manufacturers generally position as offering better uniformity and lower power draw than older LED packaging methods.

LG showed the new LASA 136' alongside its existing MAGNIT Essential LMEA model, according to the announcement, with the pairing meant to demonstrate the energy-efficiency case for COB LED technology and what LG describes as easy connectivity at a competitive price point. The announcement does not specify pricing, resolution, brightness or power consumption figures for either model, so buyers will need to seek those details directly from LG or its partners before making procurement decisions.

Vertical focus

Beyond the product reveal, the event was structured around five verticals LG is targeting for display deployments: corporate, hospitality, retail, education and healthcare. LG staff working across those sectors were on hand to meet trade partners and customers, according to the report, suggesting the company is leaning on vertical-specific sales and support rather than a one-size-fits-all pitch for its display range.

The event also featured a keynote from Morris Garrard, head of pro displays at Futuresource Consulting, offering market insight into the professional display sector. The source does not detail what specific data or forecasts Garrard presented, so it is unclear what new market trends LG and attendees were pointed toward beyond the general framing of "opportunities" in the space.

For signage operators and integrators, the key takeaway is that LG continues to expand its microLED COB portfolio at the large end of the size range, competing with rivals such as Samsung and Sony in the premium large-format display market. Anyone considering a MAGNIT deployment will want to press LG or its resellers for the technical and commercial specifics that this announcement leaves out, including where the LASA 136' sits in price and performance relative to the existing MAGNIT Essential line.
