GSTV Survey Ties Fall Road Trips and Football Season to C-Store Ad Opportunity

2026-09-10 · via DailyDOOH

GSTV, the video network that runs screens at fuel pumps and convenience stores across the US, has published new survey data arguing that fall road trips and football season create a window for retailers and CPG brands to reach shoppers through its network. The company says the findings come from its Consumer Pulse research, fielded through MFour in July 2026.

For operators running screens in the fuel and convenience channel, the numbers are meant to justify ad spend during this stretch of the calendar. GSTV says more than 80% of its viewers are planning or considering a road trip this fall, and 88% expect to take part in football season in some way, whether college games or the NFL. The company also claims 96% of viewers recognized a brand, considered a purchase, researched a product, or bought something after seeing an ad at a gas station.

GSTV frames the convenience store stop itself as the connective tissue between these two behaviors. According to the survey, 73% of road trippers stop for snacks or breaks along the way, which GSTV says makes that stop more common than any other road trip activity, including eating at restaurants. On the football side, 75% of viewers who plan to watch games this season say they pick up food or snacks beforehand, and 72% say they are open to trying new products if the price is right.

Cost is also cited as the leading reason people choose to drive rather than fly for fall trips, with 79% of respondents calling it an important factor.

Tiffany Southwell, GSTV's senior vice president of measurement, customer experience and product, is quoted saying the convenience channel is positioned to be a key touchpoint for both road trippers and football viewers, and that c-stores can help CPG brands reach audiences on the road.

What this means for operators

This is a network using proprietary survey data to make the case for ad inventory during a seasonal window, which is standard practice for retail media networks trying to move budget before Q4. GSTV says it operates across more than 29,000 locations and reaches 115 million unique US adults monthly, positioning itself as the largest consolidated platform in the fuel and convenience channel.

The release does not disclose methodology details beyond the survey vendor and timing, sample size, or how "engagement" and "recognition" were measured. It also does not mention pricing, new hardware, or software changes tied to this campaign push. Readers evaluating whether to buy into this seasonal narrative for their own fuel or convenience locations will need to ask GSTV directly for the underlying data before treating these figures as planning benchmarks.

GSTV , America’s leading on-the-go video network, engaging and entertaining targeted audiences at scale across tens of thousands of fuel retailers, this week released new survey data revealing how the convergence of fall travel and football season creates impactful opportunities for retailers and consumer packaged goods (CPG) brands to connect with consumers on the go.

According to GSTV’s most recent Consumer Pulse, more than 80% of GSTV viewers are planning or considering a road trip, and nearly nine in 10 (88%) expect to participate as a fan in football season in some capacity, from college games to NFL and beyond. This creates valuable opportunities for retailers and CPG brands to connect with consumers as they fuel up ahead of their shopping trips for the big game or heading out for a weekend road trip. After seeing a gas station ad, 96% of viewers reported recognizing the brand later, considering a purchase, researching it, or making a purchase.

For fall road trippers, cost ranked as the top reason consumers choose driving over flying. Nearly eight in 10 (79%) said it is an important factor in their decision.

Gas stations and convenience stores play a central role in their road trip experience, with 73% of respondents saying they stop for snacks or breaks along the way, making these stops more common than any other trip activity, including dining at restaurants.

Among consumers planning to watch football this season, 75% pick up food or snacks before a game. They also have a willingness to try new products, with 72% saying they would do so, especially if the price is right.

“Heading into the fall season, consumers are moving through a series of high-value moments, from road trips and fuel stops to game day shopping needs,” said Tiffany Southwell , Senior Vice President, Measurement, Customer Experience (CX) & Product, GSTV. “This creates opportunities for retailers and CPG brands to become part of the journey, especially as consumers are actively looking for snacks and drinks to take with them. The convenience channel, as well as other retailers on the consumer’s journey, are positioned to play an integral role for road trippers and football viewers, and c-stores are proving to be the ultimate destination for CPG brands to break through to audiences on the road.”

With more than 29,000 locations reaching 115 million unique U.S. adults each month, GSTV is the leading consolidated and scaled digital media platform in the convenience and fuel channel. GSTV viewers were surveyed via MFour, in July 2026.
