Daktronics, the US-based LED display and digital signage manufacturer, has named Amar G. Subash vice president of international sales, effective October 21. The move puts a new leader in charge of the company's push into markets outside the US at a time when Daktronics is also restructuring its manufacturing footprint.
Subash will be based in London and will oversee Daktronics' international sales strategy, with a focus on expanding into new markets and strengthening partnerships, according to the company. He succeeds Judd Guthmiller, who is leaving Daktronics after several years running its international sales operations. Guthmiller will stay on to help with the leadership transition.
Subash spent more than 20 years in international business roles before joining Daktronics. He was most recently vice president and general manager for EMEA and India at Harman Professional Solutions, and previously held a similar role covering Asia-Pacific and India for Harman. Earlier in his career he held senior management and finance positions at Tyco Fire & Security and Lucent Technologies India.
Daktronics president and CEO Ramesh Jayaraman, who says he has worked with Subash for more than a decade, pointed to his record of growing revenue, building customer relationships and developing teams in the AV industry as reasons for the hire. Jayaraman credited Guthmiller with helping expand Daktronics' global footprint and build out its international sales team.
Why it matters for operators
Daktronics is one of the largest LED display makers serving sports venues, out-of-home advertising and large-format digital signage, and most of its revenue has historically come from the US market. A dedicated international sales leader with EMEA and APAC experience at a competitor like Harman suggests Daktronics wants to push harder into markets where it has been less dominant, particularly in Europe and India.
The appointment comes shortly after Daktronics announced it was closing its manufacturing facility in Ireland as part of a broader reorganisation of its global manufacturing operations. The announcement does not explain how the Ireland closure and the new international sales push fit together, or what specific markets or product lines Subash will prioritise first. For integrators and venue operators outside the US who work with Daktronics, the leadership change and the manufacturing shakeup together signal a period of adjustment in how the company serves customers abroad, though the practical effects on lead times, support and local partnerships remain to be seen.
