Daktronics Launches See-Through LED Displays for Storefront Windows
2026-08-02 · via Digital Signage Today

Daktronics has added see-through LED window displays to its product line, aimed at retail stores, convenience stores, gas stations, quick-serve restaurants and shopping centers. The displays are meant to replace static window clings and posters with digital content that can be swapped for promotions, dayparts and seasonal campaigns without reprinting anything.
The pitch is straightforward for anyone managing storefronts: window space is usually static and rarely changes because updating clings and posters takes time and money. A digital layer lets a retailer push new offers on the same schedule as their other signage, rather than treating the window as a separate, slower-moving channel.
Daktronics says the transparent design lets daylight and visibility through the glass while still carrying video or graphic content, so stores are not forced to choose between a lit, inviting storefront and one that carries marketing messages. Bill Hadsell, product manager for solutions development at Daktronics, said in the company's release that storefront windows are "one of the most underused communication spaces" and that the product is built to influence customers before they enter while keeping the in-store daylight experience intact.
Where it fits
See-through LED is not a new category. Other LED manufacturers and glass display specialists have offered transparent film and mesh-style products for retail windows and building facades for several years, generally trading off resolution and brightness against how much light and visibility the panel lets through. Daktronics' announcement does not give pixel pitch, brightness, transparency percentage or pricing, so it is not possible to say how this stacks up against existing transparent LED products from a technical standpoint. That is the obvious gap for anyone evaluating this against alternatives already on the market.
Content for the new displays is scheduled and managed through Venus Control Suite, Daktronics' existing centralized digital signage software platform. That matters for operators already running Daktronics hardware elsewhere, since it means window displays could be folded into an existing content management workflow rather than requiring a separate system. For businesses not already in the Daktronics ecosystem, adopting Venus Control Suite would be part of the buying decision.
The release frames the product around quick-serve restaurants, convenience stores, gas stations and shopping centers, all environments where window-facing promotion and daypart-driven offers are common. The announcement does not specify installation requirements, expected lifespan, or how the displays are powered and mounted relative to the glass, details that would typically factor into a purchasing decision for facilities and store design teams.
