Clear Channel Outdoor has won back the advertising concession at Pensacola International Airport, following a competitive selection process. The company will install LED video walls, a connected network of concourse screens, and new branded environments as part of the deal, giving operators in the airport DOOH space another reference point for how carriers are packaging digital inventory around terminal expansions.

Clear Channel previously held the Pensacola concession until 2012. The airport then ran the advertising program in-house from 2018 until now, when it opted to bring in an outside operator again through Clear Channel's Airports Division.

According to the announcement, the new program will place branded LED video walls at terminal entrances, security checkpoints and baggage claim. A connected network of digital screens will extend across the concourse, reaching travelers near gates, restaurants and retail areas. Other formats mentioned include immersive branded environments, architecturally integrated corner tension-fabric displays and sponsored charging stations. The release does not specify screen counts, resolutions or the hardware and CMS vendors involved.

Clear Channel says the upgraded infrastructure will give advertisers access to more than 3.1 million passengers annually. The company describes Pensacola as the busiest airport along the Interstate 10 southern corridor between Jacksonville, Florida, and New Orleans, drawing business, leisure and military travelers.

Tied to a terminal expansion

The media rollout is timed to a $165 million expansion of the airport terminal, scheduled for completion in the first half of 2028. That project adds a new concourse and five gates, taking the airport from 12 gates to 17. For Clear Channel, this means the screen network can be built into new construction from the start rather than retrofitted, which typically allows for cleaner power and network runs and more architecturally integrated placements, such as the tension-fabric displays mentioned in the release.

Morten Gotterup, president of Clear Channel Outdoor's Airports Division, called the airport's growth a pivotal moment for the partnership, according to the company statement.

For the digital signage industry, the Pensacola contract is a reminder that airport concessions remain a competitive category where incumbents can lose and regain ground over a decade-long cycle. It also underscores how mid-size airports undergoing capital expansion are becoming attractive targets for DOOH operators looking to build connected, multi-format networks rather than standalone screens. The announcement does not name hardware suppliers, content management software or advertisers already signed to the network, so how the technical buildout will actually work remains to be seen.
