BrightSign Launches Control Plus Fleet Management Tier on AWS

2026-08-20 · via DailyDOOH

BrightSign has launched BrightSign Control Plus, a premium tier of its device management software, built to run on Amazon Web Services. The move gives operators managing large player fleets a cloud backend from a major provider rather than infrastructure BrightSign runs itself, which matters for anyone weighing uptime guarantees and data residency questions before signing a multi-year fleet contract.

According to the company, Control Plus is aimed at fleet management at scale across retail, restaurant, corporate, healthcare, and transportation deployments. The pitch is a consolidated view of fleet status: health dashboards, automated alerts, system navigation, and what BrightSign calls AI-aided diagnostics. The stated goal is to let operators catch problems before screens go dark, rather than finding out from a store manager or a customer complaint.

BrightSign says it currently has more than 300,000 players deployed worldwide and that Control Plus is built to scale well beyond that number, supporting self-healing, software updates, bulk actions, and job scheduling across networks ranging from a handful of screens to thousands. The company frames this as relevant to IT managers, system integrators, multisite operators, and CMS partners who need to provision and monitor devices without touching each unit individually.

On the technical side, BrightSign lists a fairly standard AWS stack behind Control Plus: Elastic Kubernetes Service, EC2, RDS and Aurora, S3, CloudFront, GuardDuty, load balancing, and AWS Control Tower. That combination points to a containerized backend with managed databases, content delivery via CDN, and built-in security monitoring and governance from AWS Control Tower. BrightSign says this setup supports content storage and delivery for dynamic signage content without capacity issues, and helps keep costs manageable while scaling.

Steve Durkee, BrightSign's CEO, said running Control Plus on AWS lets the company offer "reliable, secure, flexible, and sustainable digital signage, regardless of the scale or size of the deployment," giving customers "complete visibility and unmatched control of digital signage networks from anywhere."

What the announcement does not say is pricing, how Control Plus differs feature-by-feature from BrightSign's existing Control tier, or which AWS regions will host the service, a relevant question for operators with data sovereignty requirements. It also does not detail what the "AI" in AI-aided diagnostics actually does beyond flagging issues, nor does it name any launch customers or early adopters.

The move puts BrightSign's device management offering more directly in competition with cloud-native fleet management tools from CMS vendors and other player manufacturers who have already built or partnered for similar dashboards. For existing BrightSign customers, the practical questions will be migration path from the standard Control tier, added cost, and whether the AWS backend changes support and SLA terms.

New @BrightSign Control Plus on @AWScloud

BrightSign LLC has launched BrightSign Control Plus, a premium tier of its device management solution for digital signage players, on Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS).

Steve Durkee , CEO of BrightSign told us “Our top priority is to provide our customers with the most intelligent digital signage solutions that marry best-in-class hardware with the right software, services and support. Launching BrightSign Control Plus on AWS is a continuation of that mission. Running Control Plus on AWS’s trusted platform enables us to provide customers with reliable, secure, flexible, and sustainable digital signage, regardless of the scale or size of the deployment. This means complete visibility and unmatched control of digital signage networks from anywhere.”

BrightSign Control Plus delivers advanced fleet management at scale for digital signage networks across industries including retail, restaurant, corporate, healthcare, and transportation. For simplicity, BrightSign Control Plus provides a consolidated view into fleet status, with access to health dashboards, automated alerts, system navigation, and AI to aid diagnostics. This allows customers to take a real-time, proactive approach to fleet uptime, avoiding issues that arise with reactive management.

To deliver return-on-investment and perform reliably in increasingly diverse environments, modern enterprise solutions must be flexible and scalable to evolve alongside business needs. By using AWS’s efficient cloud infrastructure, BrightSign can keep costs manageable while still scaling to support 300,000+ players deployed worldwide today, with room to grow well beyond that. This means that BrightSign Control Plus can manage anywhere from a few to thousands of digital signage networks, and support simultaneous self-healing, software updates, bulk actions, and job scheduling. It empowers IT managers, system integrators, multisite operators, CMS partners, and anyone provisioning technology fleets to configure and monitor at scale, without the headaches associated with having to inefficiently manage each individual unit.

BrightSign Control Plus uses a wide range of AWS services to enable its functionality and support day-to-day operations. These services include: Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), Amazon EC2, Amazon RDS & Aurora, Amazon S3, Amazon CloudFront, Amazon GuardDuty, Load Balancing, and AWS Control Tower. Building on AWS’s secure platform allows for continuous, built-in security monitoring and consistent governance across BrightSign’s cloud environment, minimising risk and maintaining uptime. Using AWS also supports the storage and delivery of content, helping businesses offer dynamic, engaging experiences without capacity challenges. This is further supported by AWS’s efficient infrastructure.

From small one-off installations to large digital signage fleets, BrightSign Control Plus running on AWS makes device management simple at any scale with superior visibility and control.
