Blue Rhine to Install LED Screens on Sphere Abu Dhabi's Exosphere
2026-10-27 · via Digital Signage Today

UAE-based AV and digital signage integrator Blue Rhine Industries (BRI) has won the contract to install the LED screens covering the exterior of Sphere Abu Dhabi, known as the Exosphere. The company calls it the largest scope of work in its 20-year history, a notable marker for anyone tracking how large-format LED projects are being distributed among regional integrators in the Gulf.
BRI was selected by ALEC Engineering and Contracting, part of ALEC Holdings, as part of the main construction contract for Sphere Abu Dhabi, which the release values at $1.7 billion overall. That figure covers the building project broadly, not the LED installation specifically, and the announcement does not break out a separate cost for the Exosphere work.
The Exosphere is described as a fully programmable exterior display that wraps around the building's 112-metre-high facade, intended to run art, entertainment and promotional content as a large-scale digital canvas. This mirrors the approach of the Las Vegas Sphere, whose exterior LED surface has become one of the most recognized digital out-of-home displays in the world. Sphere Abu Dhabi is billed as the first Sphere venue built outside the United States.
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) is leading development of the venue, which is scheduled for completion in 2029 and designed for a 20,000-person capacity, according to the release. The venue is intended to host concerts, sporting events and exhibitions.
For operators and integrators watching the large-format LED space, this deal is a reminder of where the big-ticket, architectural-scale projects are heading: branded entertainment venues that double as advertising and content platforms at city scale. It also signals that regional AV firms with sufficient scale, like Blue Rhine, are positioned to compete for sovereign-backed entertainment infrastructure contracts rather than ceding that work to international integrators alone.
What the announcement does not say is just as relevant to the industry. There are no technical specifications given for pixel pitch, panel manufacturer, total display area or brightness, nor is there detail on the content management or playback systems that will drive the display once installed. There is also no stated value for BRI's piece of the contract, and no detail on installation timeline relative to the 2029 completion date for the wider building. Those details would normally shape how the industry assesses the scale of the LED order relative to other Sphere-style exterior displays already in operation or under construction elsewhere.
For now, the news confirms a contractor and a scope, with the technical and commercial substance still to come as the project moves toward its 2029 target.
