ANC Upgrades 11 LED Displays at Washington's Union Station
2026-08-14 · via DailyDOOH
ANC has completed a multimillion-dollar upgrade of digital signage infrastructure at Washington D.C.'s Union Station, working with the Union Station Redevelopment Corporation (USRC) and media operator New Tradition Media. The project replaced 11 large-format interior displays and modernized the electrical infrastructure behind nine static advertising banners in the station's commuter corridor.
For operators of transit and travel media networks, this is a case study in what a full-station refresh looks like at one of the busiest multimodal hubs in the country. According to the announcement, more than 1,000 square feet of digital signage was upgraded, with the new displays built on a 2.5mm LED pixel pitch. ANC says the finer pitch delivers brighter, sharper visuals suited to the station's high-traffic areas.
The static banner work is worth noting too. Rather than converting those banners to digital, USRC and ANC chose to modernize the wiring and electrical infrastructure supporting them, which the companies say produces more consistent lighting and image quality. That is a reminder that not every upgrade in a venue like this ends with more screens: sometimes the fix is better power and mounting infrastructure for existing static inventory.
Service and monitoring
ANC says it is providing a 24/7 service package alongside the new hardware, including remote monitoring intended to reduce downtime and keep content running without interruption. The announcement does not specify the monitoring platform or software used, nor does it give a total project cost beyond describing the deal as "multimillion-dollar."
USRC president and CEO Doug Carr framed the upgrade as part of the station's broader transformation, comparing its advertising audience to major sports and entertainment venues in the region. ANC CEO Jerry Cifarelli said the project expands the company's presence in the Washington D.C. market. New Tradition Media COO Bret Richheimer described it as a deepening of the company's partnership with USRC.
The timing lines up with USRC's larger Station Expansion Project, a multi-billion-dollar redevelopment being carried out with the Federal Railroad Administration and Amtrak. That project is expected to reshape Union Station over the coming years, and this signage upgrade appears to be an early, discrete piece of that longer-term plan rather than a standalone refresh. The announcement does not say whether further digital display expansion is planned as the Station Expansion Project progresses.

New Tradition, USRC Union Station, ANC Upgrade
As part of Union Station’s ongoing transformation into a world-class hub for multimodal transportation and commerce, the Union Station Redevelopment Corporation and New Tradition Media have completed a multimillion-dollar upgrade to the station’s digital signage technology and infrastructure in partnership with ANC.
Together, the three parties delivered a complete interior upgrade of 11 large-format digital displays and modernized the electrical infrastructure supporting nine static banner offerings, enhancing both the audience and advertiser experience at historic Union Station.
“Union Station offers one of the most valuable captive audiences in Washington, comparable to the visibility advertisers seek at the region’s major sports and entertainment venues,” said Doug Carr , President & CEO of Union Station Redevelopment Corporation. “These upgraded displays are another important step in the station’s ongoing transformation and create a premium new opportunity for brands to engage millions of commuters, travelers, and visitors in the heart of the nation’s capital.”
More than 1,000 square feet of digital signage at Union Station has been upgraded by ANC, delivering brighter, sharper visuals that create a more engaging experience for travelers and visitors. Featuring a 2.5mm LED pitch, the enhanced displays offer crisp imagery and improved clarity, ensuring content stands out across the station’s busiest areas.
Behind the scenes, ANC has provided a 24/7 service solution package alongside the upgraded technology, which includes advanced monitoring capabilities that help keep the displays running smoothly, minimize interruptions, and provide audiences with seamless, high-quality content throughout the day.
“Union Station is an iconic destination and one of the country’s most important transportation hubs, making this a meaningful project as our team continues to expand our presence in the D.C. market,” said J erry Cifarelli , CEO of ANC. “Working alongside USRC and New Tradition, we were able to deliver upgraded display technology and long-term support to enhance the visual experience for travelers and visitors while creating a reliable, modern, high-impact media platform for the station.”
The static banners located in the station’s commuter corridor, which thousands of riders pass through daily, have also been modernized. With updated wiring and electrical infrastructure, the displays now deliver more consistent, high-quality visuals, creating a cleaner and more engaging experience for commuters while offering advertisers crisp, reliable placements that stand out.
“We are excited to continue growing our partnership with USRC at Union Station in Washington, D.C. Launching these new digital displays advances the station’s offerings for both clients and audiences, delivering a world-class visual and communications experience at the heart of the nation’s capital, ” said Bret Richheimer , COO of New Tradition.
This continued partnership with Union Station reflects New Tradition’s growing investment in and operation of leading media platforms, delivering always-on access to high-value audiences nationwide. In the Washington, D.C market, where premium inventory is highly selective, Union Station’s mix of daily commuters, business travelers, and tourists offers a uniquely concentrated, high-impact audience environment. The addition of state-of-the-art digital displays in one of the country’s busiest commuter hubs further distinguishes the company within the media landscape.
Founded in 1983, Union Station Redevelopment Corporation (USRC) is a nonprofit organization charged with preserving and restoring Union Station’s historic and architectural significance, maintaining the station’s long-term function as a multimodal transportation center, and enhancing the retail and amenities within the station. USRC is the designated Project Sponsor for the Station Expansion Project (SEP), a multi-billion, once in a generation project and investment that will transform Union Station, the Washington region’s busiest multimodal transportation hub, into a world-class facility. USRC is working closely with the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), Amtrak and its regional partners to implement long-term development plans for Union Station and the surrounding area.
